Archaeology
The Greeks, the Phoenicians, the Romans, and the Medieval squires last, chose this tract of the coast and its in land as a place of installation. A visist to the temples of Paestum or to the archaelogical excavations of Velia will cast your mind in the past. The Medieval village of S. Severino (not far from Marina di Camerota), enchants for its atmosphere and placing in a marvellous natural scenery. However, eachtown will strike you with the peculiarity of its architectural structure.
Handicraft
The legend says that Palinuro, the helms man of Enea, was in love for Kamaraton, a girl handsome like a goddes, but heart less, who didn’t correspond his love. In despair, the youns man ran after the image of Kamaraton as far as the sea-bottom, from this legend Capo Palinuro gets its name.
On the other hand, the girl was transformed in to desolate rock by Venus; on this rock was built Camerota.
Camerota contains some jewels of our culture.
Absolutely original architectural structures, the carriage of firewood on amule, the cooking based on tradition, the clay manufacture according to ancient techniques, the wood-carving with olive-tree and carob-tree wood, the wicker-work, the liking and the hospitality.
